For wedding photography you can’t beat a good castle! Earlier this year we were at Lumley Castle in Durham for Cathy and Tim’s wedding, and last year we photographed Emily and Dan’s wedding at Comlongon Castle in Dumfries. We also photographed Beryl and Norman’s wedding at Hazelwood Castle a few weeks ago, but Hazlewood Castle is not a proper castle so it doesn’t count!
This time, we were off to Wales to Ruthin Castle in Denbighshire. Definitely a proper castle. Built by Edward the 1st in 1277 to subjugate the locals. It’s been brought on a bit since then mind you, and made the perfect venue for Debbie and James’ wedding photography in July. Debbie and James found the castle when they attended a medieval banquet and fell in love with the place. The “modern” Ruthin castle is built on the remains of the old medieval castle and there lots of great backgrounds for wedding photography.
Look carefully at the next picture, is that a bride on the telly? Spooky.

The gardens at Ruthin Castle offer some great possibilities for wedding photography. Debbie had specifically requested we photographed the group shots each in a different location – given the bright sunshine, this turned out to be quite a challenge - but we managed it! If you want to try this kind of thing the main thing to remember is to allow plenty of time for your wedding photography because it does take longer to get all the guests together if more than one location is involved.
