Devonshire Dome Wedding Photography

During the week, the Devonshire Dome is part of the University of Derby in Buxton, but at weekends it is transformed into a sensational wedding venue. The Dome is BIG ( the largest un-supported domed roof in England), which makes it ideal for large wedding parties.
If you decide to get married in the Dome, civil ceremonies take place in an adjoining room, not in the dome itself. Like all Buxton venues, it is only a stone’s throw from the Pavilion Gardens for photos – or for the more adventurous, we have even taken couples to nearby Ramshaw Rocks (20 mins each way) for wedding photos on the wild side!

Susie and John – Devonshire Dome, Buxton

Devonshire Dome Wedding Photography

Susie and John were married at the Devonshire Dome and held their evening reception there too. In between, we jumped in the car together and had a quick outing to the Pavilion Gardens for a bride and groom session in the park.

These photos start with John and the guys in the grounds of the Devonshire Dome.

Susie, Dad and the girls walked the short distance down from the Lee Wood Hotel, where they had been staying overnight.

A thoughtful moment for John before the ceremony.

A glimpse of Susie as she walks towards the ceremony room.

The ceremony got quite emotional in places. Kleenex all round.

There can’t be many indoor venues where you can photograph a group of this size with so much spare space!

blog_249

After the groups it was down to the Pavilion Gardens for some B&G wedding photography.

So, we were standing on the steps getting our shots and who should walk by but Christine, the business development manager at the Dome. Was it her day off, or was she secretly checking we were going to get Susie and John back in time for their meal??

I love this light.

John poses in front of the Opera House poster window for our trademark groom shot.

These pictures included to show just what an awsome venue the Dome is.

During his speech, John performs a song for Susie. I wish I could remeber the name of the song, but it was VERY good.

A standing ovation for the Groom.

Orange Dome. Blue Dome.

Damn. Looks like we’re in trouble again.

Kat and Mike were married at Pott Shrigley, then moved on to the Devonshire Dome in Buxton for their fabulous wedding reception.

The day started for us at Kat’s parents home in Prestbury, Cheshire before jumping in the car and legging it off to the church in Pott Shrigley in time to meet the guys before the service.

I love the scene in this next image. It would be better without the cars, but hey, that’s modern life . . .

Here is one very proud Dad, and quite justifyably so . . .

Pretty sure Mike nearly lost it at this point . .

Time for a stop off en-route to Buxton along a quiet lane, for a quiet moment and some photographs. This is a summer afternoon in one of the busiest National Parks in the world folks, and not one car came down this lane in the half hour we were there. You’ve just got to know where to go.

Time before dinner for a couple more groups outside the amazing Devonshire Dome building.

Mike’s family and friends had travelled from Canada for the wedding. This made the speeches especially poignant as the two families came together.

The Dome was illuminated with coloured lights in the evening. It really was this colour - the camara doesn’t lie, does it?

Iz and Jon at the Devonshire Dome, Buxton

by daveg on April 15, 2011

We knew this was going to be a complicated wedding for us. Starting in Buxton with the bridal party, then driving accross Derbyshire to Sheffield for the wedding ceremony, then back to Buxton for the reception in the magnificent surrounds of the Dome. So we decided to engage the services of an extra assistant – Phil Daintith – (you might remember the name, Phil helped us out at the Bridalware shoot in York earlier in the year). Phil is a published photographer in his own right. His flicker page is here.

Never work with children and animals – unless you’re a wedding photographer in which case you have no choice!

Who says bouncy castles are for kids! Well, if you can’t bounce on your own wedding day, when can you bounce?

Hats off to Jon. Takes a lot of bottle to get up in front of a hundred people and perform a folky/bluesy rendition of Outkast’s “Hey ya”. It sounded suprisingly good in the echoey and weird acoustics of the Dome.

All photography by David Golding, Diana Golding and Phil Daintith.

Lyndsey and Liam were married at the spectacular University Dome building in Buxton, Derbyshire. The wedding photography actually commenced the day before the wedding with the lads having a game of Golf.

After the wedding ceremony we made a quick vist across the border to Ramshaw Rocks, near Leek in Staffordshire to get a few special Bride and Groom pictures. Then, a dash back to the Dome just in time for the start of the reception meal.

It is becoming a trend to have multiple best men. At least two – maybe even three.
