East Lodge Country House

East Lodge Wedding Photography

Many elements have to come together to create a perfect venue for weddings and wedding photography, and East Lodge Hotel is a great example of how to get this right. The hotel is in the heart of the Peak District National Park, situated between Bakewell and Matlock. It is set in ten acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and historically the 18th century Lodge has links to Haddon Hall which is only a few miles away.

The hotel has won many awards and accolades over the years. East Lodge is an AA Inspectors’ ‘Choice Red Star Top Hotel’, and the only Peak District hotel with a Gold Award from VisitBritain. They have been selected by Conde Nast Johansens as one of three finalists in their ‘Best Venue Hotel’ award category, and in 2011 have once again scooped a top silver award in the national finals, and gold in the regional finals, for Outstanding Customer Service in the Enjoy England Excellence Awards. The hotel’s award winning restaurant has 2 AA Rosettes.

East Lodge holds a Civil Wedding Licence, and offers a ‘fairytale experience’ for brides and grooms who choose the venue. The hotel has 12 luxury rooms, three of the which have four-poster beds and one of which is haunted! However the lady spirit is a delightfully benign presence, who only adds to the charm of East Lodge.

The owners of East Lodge put customer service at the top of their agenda and have a ‘ceaseless drive for excellence’. They feel that they offer something quite different and describe the hotel as ‘fresh, unstuffy, very romantic and oozing rustic charm and style’.

From wedding photography point of view we particularly like Easlt Lodge’s fabulous ornamental lake in front of the hotel set amongst the stunning gardens.

East Lodge Country House Hotel in Rowsley, Derbyshire, won the Hotel of the Year award in 2009, so natrually we were looking forward to photographing Lissie and Gareth’s wedding there. We were not disappointed. Great couple, great venue, and lovely gardens for drinks after the ceremony and for their wedding photography. For a while it looked a bit iffy with the weather, and the big group photo had to be done in the scout hut, but then it stopped raining, the sun came out and we were able to go outside and play.

Still not sure if Gareth was nervous about having his picture taken or getting married?

As if on cue it turned into a beautiful summer afternoon. Perfect.

Ok – worked it out. It was the speeches he was nervous about. Needn’t have worried though. Couple of good jokes in there Gareth, and in our opinion you aquited yourself admirably.

No problem for Lissie though. She has to stand up in front of a room full of school kids every day, so her speech was a breeze.
