It's probably not the most pressing consideration when you choose your wedding photographer, but a very important detail is what happens to the digital image files of your wedding after you've received your album and prints? What happens say if something terrible happens to your wedding album and you need to replace it in years to come? We take the matter of backing up and storing our images very seriously. Click the "Read More" link to find out how we go about it. Arguably the pictures are most at risk while they are still on the memory card in the camera. At the earliest possible opportunity during the wedding day we make a copy of the files onto a portable storage device. Big relief - there are now two copies of the files! Next - usually during the wedding breakfast I will download the files onto a portable hard drive. Back in the office, the next step is to import the images into Adobe Lightroom on my computer to be worked on, and at this time Lightroom automatically makes another backup copy on another hard disk. As a further safeguard, I use disk imaging software to make an entire backup copy of my main computer's hard disk so that if the worst does happen I can get up and running again quickly. One final precaution - I make a copy of the images of each wedding onto a DVD and these are kept at a different address. Using this routine, the images are protected against computer failure, hard disk failure and even the possibility of a fire or burglary - but lets hope that doesn't happen! |
